Intake Leak

Long story short. I hit a 20 rifle gun safe in the middle of the highway 900 miles from home, 2 miles from purchasing a new to me 34' trailer. Had to take the truck to the stealership to get the allignment fixed and check to see if I was safe for the drive home. They got my allignment all squared away and sent me on my way. When I got home I looked through the paper work and saw that they had found a few issues with my truck one of them being an intake leak.

I looked around and couldnt find what they could have been talking about. Its still got the stock filter setup. For now. This may be my excuse to upgrade.
Is there a typical place that the intake leaks?
I called the stealership and they couldnt tell me squat.

What are you driving? Hopefully a 99-03 Superduty with a 7.3L as that is the forum you are in.

The intake filters (K&N) are known to not seal real well. That causes dusting and leads to big problems.

It is hard to say what they determined as an intake leak. The intercooler boots, could be written that way also. If they did, I would assume they saw oil residue on the boots.

if there is a leak between the filter and the turbo the inside of the intake will be dusty because it will allow it to suck in dirt. if it is after the turbo you can make a boost leak detector to find it.

Looks like the intercooler boots are leaking for sure.
Thanks for the input. Im going to assume that thats what they were talking about because I cant see any were else that could be leaking.

Check for dust inside the air box and the tube going to the turbo intake.
They might have seen dust there and that would indicate an intake leak.

Very little dust in the intake tube. Looks pretty normal in there for never being touched in 10 years.
