Just recently installed EGR delete. The valve is still plugged in but zip tied to the alternator wiring. I am now getting the P0401 code. I clear it with SGII and it comes back randomly. I cleaned the valve and it still occurs. Why would the valve start posting the code now? Never did when it was in use.
because theres no egr flow.its all tied together.the ebp, iat, and egr.it knows theres no flow through the egr cooler now.youll need a tuner to get the code to not come back.
what tuner do i go with? i don't want one that i can add power with. with stock head studs i don't want the option of turning up power. would be too hard to resist for me.
i've seen alot of guys go with SCT but it comes with different power levels. is there a tuner out there that can simply be used to clear codes like this?
or should i just continue to clear the code as it pops using the SGII?

You want custom tunes. I think all of these tunes include turning off the EGR flow without a CEL. So you could plug the valve back in the port where it belongs. You could just go with the unlimited tow tune, which doesn't add any HP or TQ. Maybe email him and see if he has one available that does nothing but turn off EGR. He can do pretty much anything you want.
no egr cooler you have no egr flowe very simple. the reason it should be kept pluged in is that it keeps the pcm happer then not having it pluged in.
IMO I would remove the block off plate and stick it back in the hole. it wont do anything there but take up space and not bounce around.
I have a question, since I have an 04 with a new EGR cooler (the way I bought the truck). If I wanted to delete the EGR to prevent problems, can I remove the up-pipe, weld it up to stop the exhaust flow and just leave everything else hooked up? Will an 04 throw a CEL or codes? Does the throttle plate need to be removed?
The '04 won't throw a CEL if the EGR valve is unplugged or if the cooler is deleted...they don't check for EGR flow. They will how ever throw a code and won't spoil the radiator fan if the EGR valve is unplugged. Now this is just my opinion...I wouldn't leave a EGR cooler "open" at the rear of the engine. That part of the intake if you look at the big picture and your allowing unfiltered air back into the engine. I'm looking at putting a block off plate in my...just in case the tree huggers get their way (50 state emission testing). But I refuse to pay Elite $35 for a plate to stick in there....I'll make mine first.
What Ive read is just removing the up-pipe welding it up then reinstalling it so it looks to be hooked up but no exhaust flows through to the cooler. Then hooking it back up to the cooler to keep unfiltered air from being sucked in plus looks like its acutally there and working. I read its just a lot easier to remove the up-pipe vs removing the cooler. And then just leave the actual EGR valve alone.

I disagree 100%. The up-pipe was a massive pain in my rear. The cooler was a breeze. Probably have to take more apart to get to it, but physically way easier.
