glow plug codes

I have a 2000 exc. 7.3, the glow plug codes have been on for a while. I have just plugged it in every night to keep it warm so I wouldnt have hard starts. BUT Im tired of seeing the light and want to fix it for good. I put a new GP relay on it. It still had codes on all the glow plugs on 1 bank after that. I changed both of the UVC harness and all the glow plugs on that bank. Still had the codes. I got discouraged and it got pushed to the bottom of my list. I was changing the fluids today and decided to check and clear the codes. Now I have codes for 3 of the GPs on the other bank plus the original 4. Thinking maybe I had a bad relay I bought a new one today and put it on, still have the codes. So thats everyting I can think of. Should I go ahead and suck up a buy a $250 GPCM and change the other 4 gps? Ideas? Thanks for the help!

Sounds like you changed the AIH relay. Excursions don't have a GPR. The GPCM supplies power to the GPs.

Get a new GPCM. Best price on a GPCM is Dieselorings. You can save about 150 bucks.

Sorry it took me so long to get back. What is a AIH? The parts store had a gpr listed for the exc. so thats what I got. Will it mess anything up? I already put it on. Whats the dif. in the 2? Im not being sarcastic Im trying to learn.

you didn't hurt anything changing the inlet heat relay, just spent some money not needed.
the controller in the link above from diesel o rings is what controls your glow plugs.
have you tested the glow plugs? also I have seen valve cover harness come unplugged but not all the way and give glow plug codes.

I didnt check them. I just replaced all of them on that bank when I put the new harness on. (Did the 50 cent thing too.) Thought I might as well do it while I was in there and thought the ones in there were prob. original. I have had the UVCH unplugged (3xs) and replugged (2xs). It still has the same codes as before. Couldnt find anything on the controller on the DieselORing link. Like the boxer BTW. I have a 5 yr old female. I tried puttin a pix of her under Henry 9N. dont know if it worked yet.

I posted that link so you could order a GPCM at a damn good price. Everytime someone has posted about GP codes for an entire bank it was due to a bad GPCM.

Did you replace a round relay or did you replace a rectangular box with two plugs?

Thats the first thing we need to know.

Most issues with the glow plug systems on a GPCM equipped truck come from the damn GPCM... Worthless piece of crap!

No... We dont. We are assuming he knows the differance between a relay and a GPCM. We dont know anything.

Went back and re-read the posts, it wassomebody else who mentioned the GPCM, I thought it was the OP. So we are both right, he don't know what he has but we know something, haven't figured out what it is yet.

Lol. Yeah I know the dif. between the GPCM and the GPR. The little round thing is the GPR and the square thing is the GPCM. hahaha. Just was curious what the dif. between a AIH and the relay was? I have figured for a while it was the GPCM. Just wanted to get some advice before I bought a $250 part on a guess. Especially not knowing any more about it than I do.

You only have one "little round thing" and it is the AIH relay for the Air Intake Heater. You do not have a GPR if you have a GPCM.

Thats just it... You dont have a glow plug relay... You have a Intake Air Heater Relay.

You replaced a relay for nothing.

It sounds like your Glow Plug Control Module is bad. Rock Auto has good prices on them, or if you want to delete the troublesome little piece of crap you can swap a pick up PCM and wire harness for the top of the motor and run a relay.

Up to you, but replace the GPCM and I bet your issues go away.
