thats the downside to many aero improvements.but with these fuel prices now, what are we gunna do? i know i won't be keeping a big box for my dump body anymore.not when it's literally hundreds of dollars difference per year if i get restyling.
we can keep lubed up and bending over or we can do something about it.the government isn't going to help us,we know this.we need to help our self.there comes a point when appearance needs to take a back seat.this point will be different for many.perhaps more will suck it up at $4.50 instead of $4.20 per gallon, for some it may take $5.00 or higher.some may never bend and just pay.at these prices,im left with no choice but to alter appearance for improved economy.id like to have some money put away for retirement, rather than let the greedy and corrupt have it.we can't put much faith in the gov to take care of us latter in life either,we know this too.

unfortunately we'll always have our hands tied as far as the price increase for all our goods, because everything is shipped by truck using diesel fuel.
but for our rigs, you just need to ask yourself, how much does a gallon of diesel fuel need to cost, until i start make changes to my truck?
sure it will take time for others around you to get used to altered appearance and some may look and laugh at first until it becomes more common.meanwhile i'll be laughing all the way to the bank. this leaves more money for mods! (or food on the table doesn't hurt either lmao.)

It's pronounced "Pious" Nate.

I don't mind the canopy though. It's ok.

There's a guy with a SooperDooty that gets 28mpg. I'll dig up the links if y'all want to see it. It's not very pretty, but 28mpg is impressive.

It also looks like my 65 mustang fastback.

This was advertised (the wing on top of the pickup) as a fuel saver, BS! I leave it on because it helps keep bugs off the front of my 5er. LOL

I can't do anything to the front end or underside as far as aerodynamics. I need the grill open to keep it cool when I'm hauling hay home and it's 4 wheel drive too. I need all the ground clearance I can get on our ranch. Im not sure if that cap would be practicle either. I have a 100 gallon fuel tank and tool box in the bed. I am going to look into some changes. that 255 85 sounds like the first one. It really needs new tires. 140,000 miles on them so far already.

tirerack only lists a BFG mud terrain in 255/85/16. I love those tires but not with us driving so much on the highway. This is the first truck I've ever had that didn't have them on because of that. Do you all think the lower RPM from this tire, 625 vs 675 will help enough to offset being a mud tire not meant for fuel economy? I haven't used these since they changed the design and am curious how the ride is now too. I started putting bfg mudders on my f150 in 91. Those rode fine.

not likely.... If you are getting tires I would highly concider grabbing some 17" rims and going to a 17" tire...

that way you have the option to get a set of 05+ axles with 3.73s. . Better gas mileage, better ride, better brakes, lighter (I think).

I bought new tires and didn't go to 17s and have been kicking myself.

You can buy a lot of fuel for the price of a new rear axle and new rims. The newer 17" rims won't fit on our trucks without changing the hubs or axle to accept the different bolt pattern.

True, but you gain more than gas mileage. Also, you can find them pretty cheap... I say a craigslist add for a set of axles (front and rear) for $400.

you can pick up some rims from a chebby or dodge 3/4 ton (as I think they had the 8x6.5) and when you decide to go to the newer axles getting new tires will not need to factor into the cost. This is the problem I now have.

OEM rims are on craigslist all the time... you can get sets of them for less than $200... sometimes with good tires too.

the newer axles can be had cheaply, but then you need to install them. and that can be time consuming/expensive
