Good point on the surge brakes, I never thought about that.
I think there is at least one WDH that works with surge brakes - I think I read something like that a while back. Let me check ....
The Reese SC with dependent sway control maintains 6 points of friction to control trailer sway and utilizes easy-to-install clamp-on trailer brackets. The adjustable brackets do have a wider mounting range as they can be installed between 17" and 30" (depending on weight capacity) but the biggest improvement is in the design of the spring bars. The Reese SC utilizes more tappered trunnion bars offering superior spring bar flex and therefore superior performance. The system will also work on boat trailers with surge (hydraulic) brakes.
Awesome thanks! Yeah I I am headed up now to look at my truck and the hitch. ( I live full time on a house boat so my truck is .5 mile away not 20ft to the garage anymore). If it is the classIV then my tongue weight is not even an issue. I just don't want the truck to squat a whole bunch. That's my concern with this whole thing

I believe what really matters is the rating on the hitch, not what class it is. Mine is rated at 500 lbs weight carrying. Let us know what yours is, but I'd be surprised if it was more.
Hidden hitch makes a HD class 3 hitch that is good for 600TW/6000WC, but that's still a little shy for the size of boat he has.
the only problem you would have with the WD setup above would be if the A-frame on the trailer is too far away from the ball. but i'd be willing to bet with that heavy of a boat, the A-frame will come up almost all the way to the ball and the "pole" will not be as long as you would find on a lighter trailer.
If it were my boat ... i'd look VERY hard at the WD setup above .... looks like a pretty nice unit for the price. most of the others were around $500.
If you could use it, there would be no question what-so-ever that you are well within every tow rating that applies to your rig.
Yup, 500lb capacity. I will once hooked up and loaded.... Weigh it and see where the tongue weight is with this combination of truck and trailer empty fuel tank vs full fuel tank and such with boat and see if it shifts the weight at all etc. I always want to do things the right way. But I may just be over thinking this one just a bit. Need to weigh it all first.
Ok.... 1190 miles on the new truck. Put some airlift bags on it and hooked up the boat trailer. Pulled the boat out of the water and gonna wash and wax it tomorrow. Truck did awesome up the ramp. Friday we take her for the towing test up some mountains pulling the boat. Can't wait!!!! I will also pull it across the scales and weigh the entire set up.
Added so airbags and various mods etc. To my truck so wanted to get the real numbers. The truck full of fuel, me 230lbs, and tools firefighting equip (makes up for my wife's weight and then some she was not present) boat full of fuel and water tanks full. Weights are as follows.
Front. * * * *3240
Rear. * * * * 2600
Gross. * * * 5840
GVWR. * * 7050
Payload. * 1230. Remaining
Trailer. * * *6600
Tongue. * * *520
GRCVW. *12780
Took the truck on 150 round trip up and down some steep grades. This EB tows awesome! Feel the boat pushing me around a bit more then my PSD. But yeah this truck is 2500lbs lighter. Got 12.5 mpg towing too. Wow! Big grins!
