Hey everybody I'm in the process of getting my 86 bronco ready for a engine swap I don't have the new motor yet but its going to be a 300/4.9 right now its got a 302 in it I plan on getting a 300 and rebuilding it and beefing it up some I love 300s my first road worthy truck had one in it it did everything I asked it to and it never let me down when I got this truck it didn't have a motor in it and I had a 302 laying around so that's what I put in it my mistake after two motors 4 sets of main bearings a new crank reworked heads I finally got it on the road drove it for a few months and it blew up again so I'm throwing in the towel and it never did what I wanted it to do so in gonna find me a good 4.9 and rebuild it and was needing some advice on some good mods for this motor my aim is this build is low end torque any help would be great
Posted in the wrong place? You want to install a 300 in your Bronco, well, this is the 300 forum. I see no problem with that. Sounds like 302's don't like you.
If you want low end torque, get some long tube headers. I plan on building my 300 for torque also, and am going to use the Hooker long tube headers. I also plan on using the Offy DP intake, and Holley 390 carb (maybe a 600 since they cheaper) I have not decided on a cam yet, maybe one from Clifford Performance, or the Crane 260.

Ok I wasn't sure if this was the right place I'm still new the the forum thing but my questions are how well dose the offy dual port perform compared to stock one barel dose it give as much torque and how bad dose it hurt mileage or has anyone used the Clifford manifold how good is it and are there any other mods besides just intake and headers

Typically, with the right size carburetor and sensible driving, the 6 will give more power AND better mileage with a 4bbl because it simply flows better. The exhaust is restrictive on a stock 6 and should be changed to accommodate the carburetor.

This site has a lot of great people participating. Chris(ctubutis) and along with myself find it easier to help when we can comprehend the questions being asked. Please take it offensivley. We are not HS grammar teachers, just reasonable people that appreciate clear communication.
Harte3 posted a link to the best I6 sites I know of. Have a good read . There is great info available there.
The Offy/Clifford intake manifolds flow a lot more air than the stock intake. And any header you put on it is going to be less restrictive than the stock exhaust. Or if you don't want the expense of headers, and/or to cover up your starter, you can look for EFI exhaust at your local junkyard. They flow better than the stock manifold you have now, and are much cheaper than headers. Gas mileage will depend on how heavy your foot gets after the mods have been done. If you drive the same way, then your mileage will improve, but if you are constantly taking advantage of the extra HP and torque, then expect the gas mileage to suffer.
If he is building a small block 6, headers will have to be used. The EFI manifolds only work on the 240/300. Classic Inlines is probably the best source for small block 6 performance info and parts.
Thanks guys I'm learning a lot from this. But like I said I have had one of these motors before I got 20+ mpgs out of it. It didn't go very fast but I could pull a house down, about 65 was about as fast as I could get it to go and that's what I want to fix on my new motor. I know there are no other heads, I would really like to know if around 200 horse power is to much to ask for out of this motor and not go broke doing it
Oh about the grammar I'm using my girlfriend's touch screen phone it's kinda hard to type on it When your fingers are the size of a roll of quarters. Thanks to spell check I'm able to type on this thing at all lol.
