Special valve stems??
I went to the tire shop the other day with a leaking valve stem on my wheel and they said they could replace it with a rubber one but that they recommended a metal one and if I wanted a metal one I would have to order them through Ford because apparently on my aluminum wheels regular valve stems dont work and thats why there leaking.
Does anyone know if this is true?
I drive a 2001 F-350 4x4, DRW, ALL of the wheels are stock, nothing aftermarket.
Thanks ya'll

schwabs has always sold only E rated or [ 10pr ] stems on my tire purchases .I also ran into a problem with a aftermarket rim that they had no stems in stock, they put a light truck or pasenger car stem so i could drive a few blocks home, and was instructed not to inflate past light truck tire press. until the new ones came in.

+1 MY local Discount Tire has them-nothing special to factory (Alcoa) Ford aluminum rims, they are just metal and bolt in with rubber gaskets/"0" rings-I've got them on everything I own including my '99 F350 Dually.

Before there's confusion, let's talk about the differences.
There are high-pressure stems that are of steel and rubber construction. They look and feel just like "normal" rubber stems, except they are for trucks that use higher pressure tires. They pull (fit) into a rim like low-pressure ones do.
And there are steel stems that have rubber gaskets to seal them. There can be used on high or low pressure applications. They use a nut to hold them into the rim.
The O/P asked about the former type.

I know this is re-opening an OLD thread, but I have run across a product that is made specifically for our SuperDuty alloy rims.
The aftermarket bolt-in stems that seem to be the best for our application are:
Xtra-Seal p/n 17-428. Google it.
Hope this helps someone in the future who may stumble again on this thread.

Thanks Pop, I just had one go out last August that Costco installed. Never new they were special for are trucks. I will now when I get my next set of tires. I thought we had metal stems from the factory, I told Costco they changed them to rubber why? Really made me kind of mad. Been buying tires from there for years because they rotate for free on are DRW's, most charge for DRW.
