Bought an F-450
Hi guys, I'm a newbie. I guess I'm just looking for some expert opinions. I bought a 1999 F-450 Super Duty today. I'm driving over 500 miles to go get it. It's 2wd with a 9' mason's dump. The cab is basically spotless, and the interior is as well. The dump bed has some rust streaks on it, but really no rust. It's a 7.3 powerstroke, 6spd manual with 94,000 miles. New tires were put on this summer and have about 12,000 miles on them. I'm going to Pennsylvania on Friday to look it over and probably buy it. I will be giving him $7000.00 for it. The truck is completely stock. This is not my first diesel, but it is my first powerstroke. I really don't plan on doing anything to it other than changing the exhaust system, and probably the air intake as well. Just wondering if I got a fair price. Also, anyone know anything about possible fuel economy with this cab and chassis model? Thanks for reading my post.

That sound like a fair price.
As for fuel economy? That is a heavy truck and it is shaped like a brick. Also factor in LOW gears. I would be pleased w 10MPG.
Also, have you checked for insurance? Most, if not ALL insurance companies will make you insure that truck Commercially. AN you will be looking at 1500 plus a year for just liability.
There is NO NEED to change the exhaust system. Just get a muffler delete and punch the cat. That will cost you about $90 and you will still have stainless exhaust

That truck sound pretty close to my F450 that I will be selling this spring.
I do have 10' dumpbed and liftgate so with full tank and me it is exceeding 10,000 lb.
At 65-70 mph on good diesel I make 13 mpg. Tried to drive 75 mph for couple of hundred miles and it dropped to about 10.
Good news with the rear end differential gearing the truck flies over steep grades with 6000 lb payload and handle average grades with 18,000 lb trailer on the 6th gear.
One member added gear vendor to his F450 and reports about 18mpg (?)
