2000 V10 4x4. Felt clunking noise in floor drivers side. Lubed up and checked suspension, etc. No change. For some reason I wiggled brake caliper and it was loose. Checked bolts that hold the caliper on and they are tight. Started truck moved it a little pumped brakes and re-checked. Caliper is wiggling around. The other side is tight and both on my 2005 Ex are tight so this may be the culprit of the clunk which is heard in forward or reverse when the brake is applied at slow speeds.
What could the problem be. If bolts are tight, is piston seized or something? The truck stops straight and there is no pulling to either side when braking.
When I had that noise it meant the sway bar bushings in the front end were bad. If you've never done them it's probably time reguardless. It was a bad clunking that felt like it was right under the floor board.
If it is the caliper, it's probably time to replace both. I replaced just one and it always pulled to that side when braking. I wouldn't think a loose caliper would still clunk when the brakes are applied though.
