300cid swap to a 351w efi
I want to swap a out a 300cid to a 351w (efi) on 85 F150 4X4. I read on another thread that it worked fine, although I don't know if the other truck I read about was a 4X4. so my questions are as follows:
1) I am assuming that the 4X4 has nothing to do with it and the swap should work just fine.
2) the donor engine is out of a 85 Merc. that had EFI (throttle body) I think I would like to go back to carburation. I think I will at least need to do a cam change. Does anybody have any advice or info on the conversion ?
all coments or advice is greatly appreciated. This is my first time on this site. looks great
thanks DECass

You will need a rear sump oil pan, pick-up tube, main cap stud, and block off the old dipstick hole, since the car engine has a front sump.

No cam change necessary. You need a new distributor, intake manifold.
If you want to use a mechanical fuel pump you will need an old style front timing cover for the fuel pump, and the proper two piece eccentric for the front of the cam to drive the fuel pump.
If you get an old style timing cover, watch out for the water pumps. If the EFI engine had a serpentine belt set-up, the serpentine style water pump may not line correctly, which can be a good thing since it turns backwards compared to a old style v-belt set-up. The fan is designed to turn backwards too.
Just some stuff to look over and check first.
