I just got to looking at the new exhaust manifolds I am thinking about buying for my 300CID engine. I was wondering if these will work on my truck since I do not see a place to bolt it to the bottom of my intake, which is carbureted. Maybe this doesn't matter but I can't remember from when I had the intake off, whether or not the bottom of the intake actually does anything or if it is only a place to bolt the exhaust to hold them together.
Those look like EFI manifolds which is a pretty common upgrade if you don't want to go with a header. Your stock exhaust manifold bolts to the bottom of your intake to help keep the air/fuel mix going into the engine at roughly the same temperature as the rest of the engine - this is an issue unique to straight six's since the intake is pretty much isolated from the rest of the engine.
Some people who upgrade to EFI manifolds (or a header) add a heater plate to the bottom of the intake manifold and pass it through a heater hose to keep the intake manifold at operating temperature in the absence of the stock exhaust manifold.
Awesome. And where does that heater hose run, exactly? Also: can I buy this at an auto parts store or will I also have to find one of those personally?
The plate splices into the heater hose. I've only seen people make one of the plates themselves; I'm not sure if you can buy them or not. If you ask the question in the straight 6 forum, you'll get plenty of responses.
I haven't done it on mine personally but would like to if I get some time.
Fantastic. Thank you. Making it would be better for me anyway as I'm going to be taking welding next year. My grandpa already knows how and he has plenty of steel to work with. Once again, thank you.
