I am doing a 5.0 swap into a CJ7. I am putting a 1989 mustang computer setup with mass air in the Jeep. I have almost everything to get it done, but here is my concern. My block is a freshly rebuilt 5.0 from a '96 Bronco that was clipped in the rear: I can't figure out if the '96 cam will be compatible with the '89 computer for timing, etc. Anybody know if I need to swap in an older cam?
You would be taking a step backwards in going to an older cam. The 96 motor uses the HO firing order and is the same cam used in the 96-2001 Explorer/Mountaineer 5.0. Swap the ECU not the cam, if you have to.
Thanks for the advice, but I did not get the ECM or wiring from the bronco. I have the 89 electronics in-hand. and currently, any $$ saved is a good thing.
