I have an 08 King Ranch 4X4 crew cab short bed, 10000lb gvw 3:55 gears. Completely stock, I got 12-13 hand calculated, unloaded, in-town, back and forth to work. Now, my back and forth drive is about 25 miles 1 way, mostly 55-60 MPH. I put an Edge 'Race Tuner' on, and deleted the cat/DPF/muffler. I have the #2 tune (supposed to be +50hp, +165tq) Truck runs super, and if I can keep my foot out of it, and drive like the old man I am, I'm getting 15.3, last fill and calculation, which is an 18% improvement. The tuner and pipes were 1300 installed, so at 1300 bucks, I'll have to drive about 10,200 or so miles (@4$/gallon) to get the 1300back, while having a truck that is much more fun to drive. You'll have to figure if it's worth it to you, and stay out of California too.

I have the race edge also. Bought mine used and so far it works great. Edge teckies told me to tow on setting 2. I tried it on one 300 mile tow, couldn't tell much difference from 1.. Given how heavy I am (25,000 or so with dry tanks) I just wasn't comfortable getting too far from stock. I drive on number 1 most all the time. Got a small mileage increase but most of all I now have a truck that runs good.
