Well, it looks like I spoke too soon, it is leaking. My mechanic hooked it up to a tailpipe sniffer and one side is running a lot leaner than the other.

One other thing that concerns me is the blow by I'm getting, when I pull out the PCV I can see a definite trail of smoke come out the valve cover, and the motor runs real rough at idle the thing feels like it's trying to shake itself apart.

Well, I think we found the problem. And boy, do I feel dumb! We narrowed it down to cylinders 3 and 4, the others seem to be ok. After checking and re-checking a dozen things, my shop teacher pinched off the hose to the brake booster, and lo and behold, the thing smoothed right out and ran great.

Sometimes it's the simple stuff that just really gives you a kick in the pants!

Thanks, it's hitting on all 8 now, but I'll take it back to my mechanic and have him hook up the tailpipe sniffer and make sure all is well. I have a feeling it's still a bit lean, it's running a bit warm and it tried to diesel on me this morning.

I have to admit, power brakes are nice, it takes serious muscle to make it stop now!

Well, I might have the same problem as you did but with cylinders #7 and #8. Some folks say it could be the intake manifold gasket, others say it could be a piston ring, or the PCV and so on...but what I don't get its about the brake booster hose....what do you mean with pinched off this hose?

Thanks.
