I've had this intermittent problem with my drivers side window not rolling down. It's not the plastic gear, because usually after a day or so it will start working again. I can see the alternator gauge move when I hit the switch like the window motor is under a load. The passenger window button and lock button still work on that switch as well. When I press the button there is no noise at all coming from the window motor. Is the motor going bad? What can I do to fix this!?
My 92 does the same thing sometime.
A friend of mine that worked at ford showed me how to fix it.
Take the door panel off take a hammer and tap the end of the motor.
He said water gets down there and the brushes get rust on them.
He got 40.00 a pop to do the same thing at the dealer
Just replace the motor now. If it's rusty inside, it won't last long anyway. Most junkyards sell them for $20-40ea, and you can use almost any Ford power window motor from the '70s to ~2000. Even a Bronco tailgate motor will work with no modification.
