which valve covers should i use. i have some gt 40 heads & my rocker arms are hitting the covers. now would the stock covers from the 96 explorer work? the heads came off one but the heads are on my 351w in my 84 f150. what do you guys think??
There are a couple of differences in valve covers for windsors. I'll try and surmise, but if I make a mistake by all means chime in.
All the differences have to do with where the vents and oil fill spouts are located. There are early model and late model and different heights for rockers.
You may not have height issues because you are carburated, but you want the oil fill and PVC to be correct so you don't need to make modifications.
A cheap clean valve cover to get is a stock 5.0 mustang cover.
I seen some new one from Ford the other day at the local speed shop sale.
the rockers are factory roller tip. i only felt one side hitting it was the #7 & 8 cylinder. the valve covers measure 2.5 inches high on the side closest to the intake. today if the rain stops i'll see how many more rockers are hitting them.
so removing the baffle wont cause any problems! i also found a set of 5/16 inch gaskets to try to lift the cover up a little. also i'm switching over to royal purple oil & differental fluid. the tranny will be switched after the rebuild..
