Well I've been battling an oil leak for a few weeks. ive searched my engine over many time and all i can come up with is my rear main is what's leaking. It will leak for a day or so then stop leaking for a few it just does it to p*@@ me off. Is there any tips or tricks to pulling a zf6? Even if I find its not my rear main I'm not out anything but time the seal was only $20. Includes new gasket and wear sleeve. I'm also going to replace all the turbo pedistle o rings too.
Bubba: Check everything on top as stated above. I too pulled my hair out looking. Checked IPR, Hpop lines, EBPV and pedestal. Finally found a plug on the drivers side right down by the IPR and it had a seal leaking.
I would venture that if your valley is wet, then your leak is on top.
My vally wet but I'm positive its not my leak. There is no oil dripping out of the vally drain hole. And everywhere my truck sits it leaves a pretty good size puddle of oil.
If you haven't seen the back side of your motor before there is also a large plate on the back that is siliconed sealed. The bad part is that it ties into the oil pan mounting. If you do pull your tranny back check around that plate.
Also I made this dumb mistake if you put on the wear sleeve put it with the taper out so that the seal slides on easy. I installed mine backwards and it was tough to get the seal to slide on.
