Okay, here's the deal with Black. Went over to C and C Complete Diesel in Bennington yesterday, and had a talk with one of the owners, a guy named Chris. Explained the whole deal with what has been going on with Black, and what Ford said, and so on. First thing I asked, could it be the cap. He said as nice as that would be, no, it's not. Then I asked if it could be the EGR cooler leaking. He actually has the cooler there, and explained what the truck would be doing if that was the case, and no, it's not the EGR cooler. He said it was the head gaskets, and showed me a set that look probably what mine look like. We talked for about 45 minutes, he explained in good detail about what is going on with my engine, and what needs to be done. They don't pull the cab, like the dealers do, they actually pull the entire engine. He says that if there is another problem they find, say a leaky main seal, they will fix that while its out, for the price of parts only, since the engine is already out. Anyway, we went through all of the upgrades that they do, EGR delete, studs, replace gaskets, check injectors and the FICM, replace the oil cooler, and a bunch of other little things. Pretty much the same price as Ford, but Ford doesn't stud it, and they don't do all the little upgrades. I'm also going to have them install pillar gauges (pyro and fuel press. ) and go with the SCT tuner. Total will be about $5300, and take about 2 weeks. He did say I would have no problem driving the truck like this for a while, just have to keep an eye on the coolant. So, it will depend on what happens with the house here in the next few months. I plan on having it done, just depends on how soon.
Yeah, everybody and their brother recommends these guys. They are all former Ford techs. The owner was a diesel tech at Ford for 9 years, and he just got sick of the crap, Ford not doing things right, so he opened his own shop. He doesn't advertise, and their number isn't in the book but they have more busiiness from word of mouth to keep them up to their eyeballs in work. So, I may see if he be willing to let me document what they do, and put it here and the 6.0 forum, for a little free advertising.
Ditto what Charlie said, Pat.
Try to get an explanation like that from a dealer.
How did your pole dancing inspection come out?
Only fell off the pole once. I think he was pleased....
Yeah, the dealer was very, very vague, and he said I needed to fix it NOW! I'm sure they know these diesel shops do a better job, so they want to scare you into fixing it with them.
I took the new to me truck in for the speed sensor fuse recall at the local Ford dealership. They did the recall, then came out with this sheet where they gave me a "courtesy" inspection (which I never told them to do) and there was 5 MAJOR things wrong with the truck. Keep in mind, I just had the truck Maryland inspected by a state inspector 2 weeks ago, and it passed.......

Gotta love it.... Drumming up busness by ripping people off. There was a lady there getting an oil change, and has a punch card. You get a free tire rotation for 5 oil changes. she wanted her free rotation, and they charged her for it. Their reasoning, she had 5 holes punched, she didn't get the free rotation until she came for the sixth oil change. I looked at the card, and there was only 5 places to punch. She ended up paying. I wouldn't have.
I guess that's why I'm barred for life from the Ford dealer in Glen Burnie
Howdy again guys... Done at the doc's office, nothing serious with the kid, just having a hard time shaking the crud. Got some stronger cough meds, that should help.
