FICM failure
Hey everyone, I found this site when I was trying to figure out why my 2004 F250 6.0 diesel wouldn't start. The FICM voltage was dropping to 17v when cranking the starter. I did the repair procedure outlined in the stickies(thanks DR QUAD!). Now the voltage holds at 48 during cranking, and the engine fired up and ran smoother than it ever has(I've owned it since 72000 miles). Unfortunately the voltage dropped to 18v once the truck is running. I did the repair again, and also resoldered the legs for the 4 coils for good measure. If it is still low voltage (I'm expecting it) I'll have to send it away to get fixed. None of the components on the board look burnt or damaged. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks, Rob

Only thing I can recommend is sending it to Ed at FICMrepair.com. Many people on here have used him to repair, plus you can get a 2 year warranty on it so if anything does happen again, he stands behind his work.

OK thanks. I tested the 4 resistors on the board, and they all meaasure 510 Ohm. Capacitors look good, sounds like I would have to pull them off the board to check them. I wonder if my soldering is the issue, or if a component on the board is the culprit.
In the last few years on the farm a good portion of my breakdowns are electronic and computer issues, so I'm trying to pick up more knowledge and skill in hopes of saving downtime and money.
