Good buy???
Seems like a great forum. And just wanted to get some thoughts on a used F150 for sale.
1997 F150 XLT
Reg. Cab, Short Bed
1 owner
83,000 miles
4.6L V8
A/C, Power W/L, Tilt, Auto Trans, Cruise, AM/FM, Tow Pkge
New Tires, Hard T. Cover
$7,500
Ran the numbers on kbb.com and edmunds.com. Seems to be in line, but wondering what others would offer...
Also, how confident should I be regarding the recalls and TSB on this model or any other major issue?
Finally, what's the size of the fuel tank?
Thanks in advance for any input.

This is my 02.cents
it's reg cab and has the 4.6 l v8 which is real good..you will get good gas mileage... new tires are they 16 inch?
83,000 miles ain't bad but that will bring the price down
the size of the fuel tank on mine is 20 gallons....i don't know if it is the same on the single cab but it should be around that size...i get around 14 miles in city and 17 miles to gallon on the highway...i have the 5.4L V8
i'll figure the new tires were around 300 dollors
83,000 miles hmmmm i'll say he should be selling for
$7,000....thats what i think..
but seems like a fair price but see if he will go down a bit...
won't hurt you know...but that is a good price
when i did a search on kbb.com
for my zip code area this is what i got
Private Party Value $6,810
Private Party value represents what you might expect to pay for a used car when purchasing from a private party. It may also represent the value you might expect to receive when selling your own used car to another private party.

here are some good questions to ask yourself also..
Does it have a bed liner?
Cd player or just stereo?
If the seller has a tool box on it is he selling it with the truck?

Also remember when you're checking prices that they vary a lot between different areas, depending on supply and demand.
If the price seems fair in your area then it doesnt make much difference what the truck would sell for elsewhere.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 1997 F150 if it was in good shape and had been well maintained. If you look around here you'll find out what problems guys have had with their trucks. Remember though that on here we see the problems and most of the time we dont hear about all the trucks that have had no problems.
One other item. I did notice that crack on the drivers side door near the window that everyone has commented on. Not very noticable at all, but how would that be repaired if it did get worse?

mine has never cracked so i have no ideal on cost
