Ok so last night i'm driving home from work everything is good, gauges are reading as they always do and all of a sudden my engine decided to seize up on me. I get out and pop the hood and look and there is antifreeze everywhere under the truck and down the right side of the engine. Something happened that caused it to overheat and blow antifreeze out the overflow. My first question is what would cause that? My second question is would overheating cause my engine to seize up? Someone had said that if i let it cool down it my become unseized is there any truth to that? My truck gave me no warning that anything was wrong, no funny noises gauges read fine....
As long as it had oil, it just might fire again. That doesn't mean for sure there's nothing damaged, but it might run fine. Give it a try, just don't overheat it again before you get the coolant system fixed.
If you locked up on ya due to overheating, it will likely run again. But, it's ruined the rings and hurt the pistons. When they overheat, it damages the metal's properties and they will fail sooner. They seem to become brittle and you'll end up with cracked rings.
Are you sure it siezed due to the heat? Are you sure it didnt crack a head and swallow a bunch of coolant into a cylinder or two?
Well i know forsure it seized up but fortunately for me it did turn over again. I believe we've narrowed it down to the water pump. I'm going to replace that and see if it still runs warm. Will post the results.
