Pass. side manifold leak?

i have been hearing an exhaust leak recently and decided to take a look at it yesterday and found a steel tube fitting screwed in the the front of the passenger side exhause manifold on the very end. I do not see anything that should be hooked to it but i see where a steel line broke off of the fitting. I have plugged it for the time being but am very curious of why its there. Any suggestions would help thanks.

exhaust back pressure tube? the other end should be connected to the sensor just above and to the left of your water pump pully. or left of the HPOP cover.

what you have found is the ebp sensor (exhoust back pressure sensor) it monitiors the exhoust pressure in the pass manifold. if you look at the front of the engine by the hpop reservoir you will see the sensor mounted on to the rest of that tube. it is comon and all it is there for is the ebpv (exhoust back pressure valve) wich helps with warm up and smoke in cold weather. if you do a search you will find alot of info and alot of peaple who removed the valve part to reduce exhoust restriction. the biggest thing to be warried about right now is that the leak will couse a loss of turbo boost wich will bring down power and mpg's.
hope this helps.

your pcm uses data from that sensor for fueling. i know DP tuner uses its info for tuning.
some do just plug it, but i would suggest you R&R it. there is a thread here on how. you can get the parts from Riff Raff, not much money if the sensor is good. it can affect your MPGs negatively.

The EBPV and EBPS are NOT related.

The EBPS is used to control fueling and provide the PCM with, you guessed it, back pressure information.

The EBPV is used to put a load on the motor.

The EBPS can adversely affect your MPG, but it wont always. Seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why, but there are plenty of confirmed reports of recovered MPGs after cleaning..

Maybe i should invest in a EBP tube and sensor, since i'm seeing 18-19mpg, and mines plugged with a npt cap on a RUINED sensor....been that way for over a year.

I'm getting closer and closer to putting ATF in my tank with the way fuel prices are going... I'm running stock injectors anyway. Money saved on fuel can buy me stage 1s
