First I wanna say I haven't been on here in months and I realized how much input I get from here and wanna say thank yall for what I have learned
Here it goes
As my username says I have a 1986 f250 4x4 xlt what it doesn't say is of course she is a 6.9 na diesel with a t19 other than glowplugs I don't have to many issues I'm considering either selling the ol girl (I dont really want to) or doing a complete frame off restoration and upgrades drivers door has to be replaced, bed has to be replaced (there is no saving it due to rust and dents) cab I'm not sure if I can save it or not drivers side is the worst but it's not to bad already have a replacement fender for drivers side, body mounts are junk but I think if I do a body lift it comes with everything I need to fix that but I also want to do so much more I figure I could do everything for no more than 18k and that includes engine rebuild with bore, headstuds and bran new turbo kit from hypermax and an intercooler for it plus a stage 1 ip and injectors and rebuilding everything, i can do this and pay for it over the next couple years and it keeps me from driving the truck (lost my license and I'm always tempted to drive it) and I know it would cost me a heck of a lot more to buy a newer truck that is built the way I want it and if it's electrical like all newer vehicles I wouldn't be able to work on it but I'm talking spending my time even redoing all the wiring harness and redoing it all to showroom quality and more when done but she would still be a daily driven/work/occasional on road play toy
Thank you guys for the input only issue I'm having on keeping it is my wife lol.... Hey aune how's things truck wise going for you last time I was on here you had recently been hit in your ol girl and you were having troubles with your replacement
yeah...I had been hit...and it did her in...cost the truck her life...and saved mine....the Replacement is runs fine...but its stuck on a mountain under 5-7 feet of snow....and I now have the 1990....which i just put the 1984's motor into...I just finished that tonight...and she is sitting in the driveway with a hood thats crooked(put it on off center so it wont close)
Glad to hear things sound better for you and poor ol idi she is gonna be grumpy when you go to pick her up and it sounds like the ol girl still lives on in a way
The small amount of work i have put into my IDI over just the past 1 month of owning it and learning about it, I would feel so, so, so bad if i were to put it in some *******'s hands. If it werent for already having one she would be my old lady. If you dont have a license and you have the time, and dont mind rebuilding her, you will not only have pride in it beyond most men will ever have in their truck but you will have a truck that will again last you another life time. Let the IDI live on in good hands. Document it, take pictures every step of the way. Youll be able to look back on the two years you spent on her mentally and visually.
x2 on the keep/restore... think about how great it'll be when everyone's jealous of your gorgeous classic truck. Think about how ordinary it would be to be driving around another one of those generic new plastic trucks that are always breaking down. Besides, it'll make a great hobby in the mean time and you'll learn a ton about working on rigs, and then you can help me.
