A few days ago the forecast was for 1/2" of snow overnight. At 04:30 my plow job call me, and they have 6"+... I hadn't plugged the block heater in... It was 12 degrees out, with blowing snow. The wait to start light was on for about 12 seconds. Turned the key to start, and it fired in less than 1 second.
Working glow plugs sure are nice...
i have the same results too,and why iv never bothered checking to see if my block heater works.id just never use it anyway.
out of all the vehicles iv owned over the years (all gas) iv never had an engine start so easy in the cold as this diesel.it's pretty surprising to hear it just start up so easy.im still not used to that yet lol.
I never even bothered finding the block heater plug on my motorhome. I just go to it once a month throughout winter, turn the key, 12 secs later, crank and it catches instantly!
Love it!
2 new 950CCA batteries, good cables, 8 working glow plugs, and new starter helps
heck, i'm not even sure if my van HAS a block heater. all i really know about its history (before i got it) is that the guy had the engine rebuilt (over 3k in parts, don't remember how much labor his reciept said), drove it 5 or 10 k miles, went out of business, parked it in his backyard for 3 years, and sold it to me.
being rebuilt, the builder may have left out the block heater, and if he didn't, it makes no difference to me - as long as i have 2 good batteries, wait for the light, then 2 seconds later hit the key, it fires up instantly.
