carb problem

I am still having trouble with my motorcraft holley 4180c on a 460 cu. engine. I am getting fuel dumped in the carb. When I try and start it I can see fuel dancing on top of the carb. There is so much fuel it is leaking out of the front throttle shaft. If I get it started it just floods out. This is the same thing it was doing before I rebuilt the carb. It is not too much fuel pressure because the fuel level is below the site hole. What am I missing here?

I'm going to assume all gaskets are installed correctly. Did the o-rings on the needle and seat assembly get damaged when installing? Was the correct power valve gasket used? It should be the round one with kind of a triangle-shaped hole in it. If the one with a round hole in it was used, it will flood an engine out really fast. It sounds like a seal or gasket problem internally.

If you have tried to adjust the fuel level and gone too far, the needle and seat assembly will go down far enough it opens the passage into the bowl. You do have the O-rings on the needle and seat assemblies?

The quick recommendation for Holley dry float setting is to hold the bowl upside down and set the straight portion of the float parallel to the bowl. If you are using some aftermarket kits, the needle and seat assembly is different from the Holley design. They will have a brass nut that screws onto a long brass needle and seat assembly. These adjust by turning the screw clockwise to lower and counterclockwise to raise. The Holley design, the 5/8" hex nut adjusts the level and the screw locks it.

I guess, I need to get a kit and rebuild the one I took off my truck went I changed to EFI and take pictures as I go. Maybe one of the mods can make it a sticky.

What do you mean by "fuel dancing on top of the carb" ? You mean in the mouth of the carb?

If there is fuel dribbling from the boosters at idle it is more than likely a blown power valve.

If there is fuel being pulled in below the throttle blades then it could also be a blown power valve or bad accelerator pump transfer tube o-rings or some type of gasket problem if it happens when the engine is off.

I think I have found the problem and of course I am stupid. It is not the carb. I have some valves stuck. Sorry I have wasted your time. Wish me luck.

We certainly appreciate honesty here, and that's about as honest as it can get!
