The best thing I ever did to my brakes was adjust the master cylinder push rod. Now that made a huge difference.

So true! as long as you don't make it too tight causing the brakes to drag.. Also many of the newer vehicles are not adjustable.. but when you can woohoo!

If you are discussing your 2003 Excursion it does not have adjustable rod throw according to the Ford manual! The newer vehicles mostly use a hydroboost master, which normally is not adjustable.. It is mostly found on much older vehicles.. if you were to have it there would be a threaded rod from the brake pedal lever going into the master cylinder through the firewall boot with a lock nut, and a very long adjuster nut threaded over the pushrod.

It only takes 5 minutes to unbolt your master cylinder to check if you have the adjustable rod.

I did research and found out that drilled are not the way to go, less surface area and more likely to crack.

I was reading around and copied the information below off another forum that has nothing to do with this site. Just FYI.

I put Powerslot or Stoptech with the Cryo treatment on the front of my EX three years ago with Hawk pads. Now the truck is vibrating below 40 mph when braking. I suspect it is the rears that are ready for a change out since the cryos on the front really should not be done in by now and the rears are still OEM at 80,000 miles. I'll let you know if I discover anything different (which will upset me).

No More USA Made Rotors and Drums

<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #333333; COLOR: #333333" SIZE=1>Since I am a bit old fashioned and very patriotic I try to buy American or Canadian made products. Knowing that aftermarket parts are often made overseas, I sent an email to Centric asking if their rotors and drums were still made in the USA and the president of Zeckhausen Racing wrote this reply:

Scott,

Brake rotors are no longer manufactured in the United States or Canada for aftermarket consumption. The “domestic” brands you may be familiar with (Raybestos,Wagner, Bendix, Centric, Motorcraft, Delco) are all manufactured in China/Taiwan. The plants and foundries that used to manufacture for aftermarket in the US and Canada have discontinued production. In addition, the European brands (Brembo, ATE, TRW, etc.) are sourcing a significant portion of their aftermarket rotors from China and Taiwan. Even Mexican rotor manufacturing is practically nonexistent today.

Centric Parts owns StopTech and Power Slot. All Centric Premium, StopTech SportStop, and Power Slot rotors are designed and engineered in-house, then Centric supervises strict manufacturing processes in Asia. They specify their own casting and manufacturing technologies. All parts are double disc ground, balanced, match the OEM vane designs and are E-coated (electrostatically applied black finish to all non-swept surfaces). Most competing brands do not offer all these OE features and benefits. Here’s a link to some additional details: The Centric Advantage - all brake rotors are not created equal

In my experience, this question about country of origin is generated by people concerned about one or both of the following:

1. They want to avoid parts manufactured in certain countries for quality reasons.

2. They want American made parts for patriotic reasons.

Depending on your goal, there is good news and/or bad news. The good news is that country of origin is not a reliable indicator of brake rotor quality. The bad news (from the perspective of patriotism) is that American-made brake rotors and drums no longer exist. Some vendors claim USA manufacturing, but they're selling foreign-made blanks machined (slotted and/or drilled) in the USA. Centric rotors, by the way, are machined in the USA.

We sell nothing but brakes, often to professional and amateur racers, and our experience with Centric, Power Slot, and StopTech rotors has been nothing but positive. We believe they manufacture the best aftermarket rotors in the world.

If you let us know the year, make, and model of your vehicle and the types of brake products you need, we will be happy to provide you with part numbers, pricing, and availability. If you have any special requirements, (e.g., towing, racing, etc.) please let us know and we'll give you specific product recommendations to meet those needs.

Sincerely,

David Zeckhausen

So a guy is bragging his products are the best in the world? Sounds to me like every other person selling "something". I never listen to the salesman, manufacturer, or owner. I listen to the unbiased people (and more than one person) that have tried the product for more than a year.

Lots here that have tried the powersluts have reported good things. I wouldn't be afraid to try them one bit.

I have about 3k miles on mine now and have no problems yet, I will keep you guys updated. The few times I have had to give the brakes a good stab I was really impressed at the difference.

I've got serious shuddering happening again and I just replaced them last summer. I'll be looking at the Napa rotors or the cryo powerslots instead.

I talked to Zeckhausen at Zeckhausen Racing, the same guy that talked to white mule. He advised that the Cryo slots arent really needed.

"In racing, cryo treatment can slow the formations of cracks typical in rotors that are rapidly heat cycled. Obviously, you're not racing the Excursion"

A short quote, but he suggested straight power slots with a more aggressive pad.

"We suggest a more abrasive pad, such as Centric Fleet Performance or Hawk HP Super Duty. The addition of the power slot slotted rotors will improve bite even more - a good things on such a massively heavy and under-breaked vehicle"

Now, this guy i believe works for or owns the manufacturing for Centric, so he's biased, however, being that he's biased and the cryo's are more expensive, you'd think he'd be pushing them, but he's not.

Dont kill the messenger, I know a lot of people swear by the cryo's. Just my .02
