Headgasket blew replace it and yesterday i ran the engine for the first time it smoked alittle but seemed fine
Today I started it to drive it for the first time andits chugging white smoke. I tried smelling it but honestly cant tell what it smells like. I'm pretty sure it doesn't smell sweet but i cant tell i think my nose is blocked by the rage i have at my truck for being nothing be a PITA lately.
It had a hard time starting and its started back up multiple times so the cylinder isnt filling with coolant like when i blew the gasket. Is it possible the timing is just out of wack. I'm hopning its just timing because if its anything more I'm selling or scrapping it asap because i've run out of time and more importantly money. and my idi is proving to be the opposite of cheap and reliable
i didnt mark the ip when i took it off becuase i never removed the cover. I dint know the timing could go out of wake unless you remove the cover.
And i let it run for alittle while long enough for the high idle to shut off.
and just to clarify when i say chugging white smoke i mean it it is blowing enough smoke to smoke out my yard
There's two types of timing involved with the pump. There is the gear train running from the crankshaft, camshaft and IP gear. That won't change unless the whole IP gear cover is removed off the engine, pulling the small front cover to remove the IP will not affect the gear timing.
There is also the actual pump timing in relation with the gear train. This is changed anytime the IP mounting bolts are loosened and the pump is rotated. Hopefully thats all thats wrong with your truck.
I'll assume you don't have a timing meter. There should be a line on the IP and the IP gear cover that you can line up for a rough timing where the engine will run ok. After that you want to get it timed. I have an older luminosity style meter that I might be able to help you with if you're in the western half of the state.
Hmmm, if the lines match up, it shouldn't be THAT far off that it would smoke like a steam engine... is it running rough or smooth and just smoking a bunch?
well i had blueovalbud over to help with a new set of eyes ears and nose to figure things out this is what we figured out.
First off its not smoking anywhere near as much but still a good amount I have a video but on my phone but i'm not sure how to post it.
Its not coolant and its not oil. that much we are sure about. its just smells and looks like the white smoke when and engine is real cold.
My timing mark on ip is dead nuts lined up. so we started checking injectors and found one was loose we tightened it but it didn't do anything.
the engine running completely normal and sound 100% normal.
blueovalbud said when he did his head gaskets he had the same sort of smoking but not as bad as i originally had. he ran the truck like a bat out of hell for a day or two and it cleared up. I'm going to run it hard only around town for a few days and hopefully it clears up. if anyone has anymore ideas with this info feel free to throw it out there

If you want to time it I have a ferret timing set up and you are close
