Coming up on its 25th anniversary.
What started as my Mother's car and then mine since Dec 2001.
The COLLISION FREE 78 Buick bought May 15th 1978, was hit by a Male Teenager in his Toyota today at 12:40 showing off to his passenger about how well he could speed around a corner at a yellow changing to red light.
At least 12 of the 18 ft monster was already in the driveway of a 7/11 when it got hit.
A 90 Toyota Celica did the honours & YES, it was a RED car.
It wouldn't have been too bad but, the KID told the police """"I Cut him off""""".
I had 32 witnesses ( H/S kids who saw it all)
They wouldn't talk with the police though.
An adult witness offered his assistance with his testimony to the police after he came back to the scene once the police showed up.
The witness ended up being a cousin of an ex-girlfriend from the mid 70's.
The 18 yr old was informed by the police of being guilty of causing the collision because of undo care & attention.
No surprise,He would prefer to settle without an insurance claim.
When he asked how much damage, I told him the body shop estimator said about $2000.00-$2500.00
The phone went silent then : How much damage is there ?
I said well, If you have e-mail I could send you a pic.
He said:"No,that's okay, my wife saw the damage, she said it was just an OLD CAR.What exactly is it "?
My reply was:"A One owner, always garaged, just $2000 spent on it this last year, It is QUITE far from just being an OLD CAR"
His reply:
"Okay, Thanks, could you let us know the total damage before the Insurance company does their thing, we might just want to cover it personally'.
Just an OLD CAR?!?!?!?!?!?! Let someone say that about mine and they will have to worry about it running them over. And it is primered and does notrun right now. and I would rather push it than drive an import
That sucks man. Makes me ashamed to be a teenager. I have been in a wreck and it was a split of the mine and the other guys fualt at a yeild sign but we still filled and had everything worked out. Just do the insurance thing it so much easier.
yo,
Tough luck D! My sis's 76 Grand Prix went through the same sit in Jan. It was a daily driver and was Hit and Run. Rear fender damage/trunk area is too much for her to cope with now.
