WTF? I know the GEM controls the interior lights...and a host of other crapola it really shouldn't...like my random ABS light that turns off my auto4x4. :\

I'm going to go give this a go...

But if I buy a new GEM module, does it need to be programmed by the Ford dealer before it can be used? I would hate to take the truck to Ford for them to replace the GEM because they charge an arm and a leg for it, while it's so easy if I just replaced it myself.

Prior to removal of the module, it is necessary to upload module configuration information to scan tool. This information needs to be downloaded into the new module once installed.

It happened to me and my 2000. $800 at dealership. New GEM and windshield removed, resealed, and replaced.

Sometimes though the fuse box gets water in it and causes the same problems too.
Don't know if it was water, but my 2000 Nav just had the fuse panel replaced today. The blower motor was stuck on when the key was off, draining my battery.

GEM?

I drive an 02 Expedition 4x4, and recently my running board lights and interior lights are not coming on when I click the "unlock" button.
Think that's the GEM module?
Dealer told me today the module is $512!!!

What all exactly does this GEM module control? Lately my fuel gauge and door locks are acting up. Could this be something to look into?

The GEM controls a whole host of stuff in our trucks; From running board lights to transfer case operation. There are about 40 or more functions that the GEM provides power for.

Have you hosed down the truck and looked for water?

If the GEM got wet after it was dry and the windshield was resealed the reseal was not done properly. I think the only other possibility would be a sun roof drain leaking inside.
