starting problems

hey yall, my name is chevy. i have an 86 f150, and i recently changed my distributor. and now i cant get the truck 2 start and stay running. it will act like it wants 2 run, but right after u let off the ignition 2 go 2 the run position, it shuts back off.i was having trouble with it just cutting out while running before. i would go dowm the road a little bit, then it would be like someone just reached over and shut the truck off. and it wouldnt start back up after. so if any1 has any advise, ill take anything at this point. thanks a million

Please use Normal English

Stop with the childish Text-ese, OK? You're not texting your BFF here, you're talking to adults located all over the world in a truck technical forum.

Normal English with capitalization & punctuation & correct spelling & all that is LOTS easier to read, and you'll have a better chance of getting some useful help by writing normally than like a snot-nosed teenager where it takes extra time & work to figure out what you're trying to say. The amount of help you get here is directly proportional to the effort you put into clear & effective communication.

As I write this, there have been 110 views of your question but not a single person felt motivated to try and help you, I wonder why....

^^^^^ This!

I will say that after you changed your distributor did you check your timing?

What kind of engine do you have? What kind of ignition (MSD, DSII, etc.)?

In order for us to help you with this we need more information. Also try using spelling and grammar as was stated before by Chris.

I agree with the other two posters my friend. No matter what age you are, even if you are a teenager who usually types like that it is *Not* recommended to do that here. In fact, If I were you I'd drop the whole sha-bang completely, It doesn't reflect good on people who type like that. Secondly, in regards to us getting more information to help you, Check out this website
Catalog for Chevy, GMC, Ford and Dodge Truck Parts and Accessories - LMCTruck.com
The point of it is getting a catalog that would immensely help not only you, but the others helping you in identifying your engine, the year(s) of your engine, what type of factory carburetor or EFI, transmission, axle, etc etc. You can order it and it should show up in a week or so. Even if you don't want to wait for it to get here so you can give us more information about your issue(maybe because you already have the required info, or you just might be the impatient kind), I'd still highly recommend it anyways, It's has come in handy for me plenty of times.

I agree with the above posters, and with the limited information would guess your timing is off just enough that it wont run. Unless you put your distributor in exactly the way you took it out, it wont be timed right. Bring it up to TDC, pull the distributor cap off, loosen the mounting bolt, and turn the distributor until the rotor is pointed at No. 1 cylinder. put it back together and see if it runs.

If your running the DSII or older ignition it could also be the ballast resistor or resistor wire.

If your problem began as soon as you replaced the distributor (why did you do that?) then that implies you likely hooked something up wrong on reassembly.

The coil should get full battery voltage in START and about half that in RUN. At least, that's the way the DSII system works, not sure about your DSIII/EEC-IV setup.

Pictures of your distributor (especially where the gray plastic connector with all the wires is attached) and a kinda close-up of the starter solenoid (so we can see the wires) might help in diagnosing this.

You could also probably still edit your original post, fix the spelling and insert as much info about your truck (like what guys have been asking) as you can answer. If you do this, I'll then delete the subsequent posts and maybe we can make this a useful thread.

But, remember, the quality & amount of help you get here is directly proportional to your effectively communicating your problem....
