I have a 1990 F150 Super Cab - short box. 2WD, 4.9L, Auto w/OD tranny.
I'm going to replace my U-Joints this weekend and was wondering if it has 2 or 3? I could not tell from the angle I was looking at.
It also looks like there is a weird bracket holding up the drive shaft in the middle. This bracket has a zerk fitting for grease. Is this something that I should replace while I have the driveshaft out and if so what is the name of this peice?
Sorry if this has been covered before, I did a search and found tons of posts on U-Joints and did not find what I was looking for.
If you go to replace the center carrier bearing, you will need access to a press. That bearing is pressed on. A normal floor press isn't long enough to do the job. I would recommend pulling it and taking it to a driveshaft or rear end place. Around here, they charge $50 to take the old one off and put the new one on. I think the new part is $20. You might be able just to replace the rubber part and the hanger if it is worn and loose. That will cause some vibrations if it isn't right. You'll also munch the output shaft seal on the tranny.
