Alright guys, im thinking about making the plunge and buying a V10 the old idi with a three speed is killing me on fuel. A local dealer has a 2000 f-250 with the v10 in it. I was wondering what you guys think it could be worth. Its got 130000 miles, Its got all the options of the xlt package. The body is in decent shape with no rust. 4x4 extended cab. And BALD tires. I thought this would be the best place to see what it was worth. The dealer wants 7500 for it.
Right now with gas going up higher and higher, use that as a bargaining chip with the dealer, also use the bald tires, to get a lower price. I wouldn't have the dealer replace them unless he puts on what you want(otherwise they will probably put on the cheapest thing thay can find), then go put on some good tires.
But $7500 doesn't sound to bad, knowing what I know about the truck. I know in my area it probably would be a little higher. But still I would try to get it lower.

Reason: Changed something
Its an Super Cab not the crew cab. I noticed a noise in the engine that doesnt go away. Im not one to know much about the ford engines but it sounds almost like a main knock, I couldn't hear it get louder as rpm's increased and I can't hear it in the cab. The truck was bought new from the dealer its at and according the service records it was always maintained at the dealer.
Yeah if you have broken exhaust studs, use that to your advantage. They are time consuming to replace. If you have the ability and tools to do them, or you will have to pay to get them done. Do a search in the V10 forum on how to replace them. Also with that mileage the ball joints will probably need to be done, also maybe tie-rods. Do some research and check that truck out good or have someone else check it out for you. But don't let a little work scare you, just know what you are getting and try to get it for as little as you can to make up for it.
I have a 99 E350 with a V10 2wd auto. 286500 miles showing. I get between 10 and 15 city/highway. I paid 2k for mine and it was worth it. 75 seems a little steep for that truck. Now 5 I could see paying. But if you can get it at a good price you shouldnt be disappointed. They tow great. I pull 7000# with mine and you wouldn't know you had a trailer until you looked back.
You can get all sorts of baseline amounts of what the truck is worth, but the bottom line is what are you willing to pay for it.
The truck is 11-12 years, tires $750-$1000, Calipers, rotors $125-200, Manifold bolts prices are all over the place. Then you start thinking of mods like changing the restrictive y in the exhaust. Mileage seems to be 12-14 from what others have posted in the V10 section of the forum. Good luck in search for a truck.
I just got a 2000 F250 4WD extended cab w/ V 10 145K on the ticker. Paid $4700 private sale. I had to replace the coil over plug boots this weekend. Picked up an engine misfire. Read about it on this forum and decided to start w/ the boots. Cyl 4 and 5 had bad boots. Misfire fixed and running like a champ again. So far I love the truck. Have not pulled our 8000lb travel trailer or my Jeep and car hauler yet, but I am expecting it to do much better than the Dodge 1500 did.
yep, a v10 is for someone who doesn't care about fuel mileage, for sure. a friend of mine sold a '04 f-250 2wd supercab with manual tranny (6-speed, i think). the only engine mod he had was jba headers and cold air system and it was super fun to drive. also, he put fiberglass fenders and bedsides with 37" tires. he gave it away at $16k though. i wish i coulda bought it from him...
