I am looking at this transmission for my 79 flareside. I am being told its out of a 78 f150. Not being a Ford expert and this is my first Ford I am quite inexperienced. I believe this to be a NP435 with a 205 transfer case. Would this be correct? Also I will be using this to replace my broke Borg Warner trans. Will the cross members be the same and the drive shaft yokes be the same?
Both the t-case and the tranny should have metal plates riveted to the casing. Clean off the muck and inspect the case for cracks, etc. On the trans, the tag should be on the right and the t-case it's on the back face. Write down the numbers/codes and Google it.
Thanks for the I'd help and where to locate the tags guys I appreciate that. I am going to go look at it this morning. The Guy wants $150.00 for the pair. Is that an ok price?
New Process 435: The shift lever retainer cap (B8T-7220-D) has two notches, two pins that protrude from the tower retain it in place.
This cap must be pressed down and held down while turning it to remove it. Peeps are unaware, use pliers, tearing out one or both of the notches. Not pleasant!
Warner T-18: The shift lever retainer cap (8MTH-7220) is threaded, threads on/off. Once the cap is removed, there is a roll pin between the threads on the tower that retains the lever in place.
For that price id pick it up in a heartbeat. 205s alone in my neck of the woods are hard to find. And when you do find them theyre going for 200-300 just for the tcase.
Here's is the stamp on the passenger side. If there more numbers I have yet to find them under the dirt. Its soaking in gunk grease cleaner now so I can get it to the car wash.
That's a good deal. I was looking for a 435 stamped somewhere. I have it soaking now. I shot them both with a bunch of gunk grease remover in hopes that it will make the trip to the car wash easier.
I plan on splitting the two apart to put them in the truck. I think that will be easier to handle. Before I do that should I put new gaskets or anything in them? They don't really look to be leaking just covered with a ton dirt.
Everything rotates easy and moves in and out of all the gears easy with no clunking so I am nit sure that I need to replace anything. I figures just cleaning them up really well and giving them a shot of paint.
Think that's ok? What should I look at before sticking them in there? Also right now I have a bourg waraner in there. Will I need to change the pressure plate or clutch? It should break an ok fit right? Unless its worn of course.
When you install, put tranny in neutral before pulling shifter. This will keep everything inline when you reinstall. Assuming you're going to remove it for ease of installation. Also a good time to pull the top cover and inspect the gears. I stand corrected on shift pattern.
