It took my brother and I 8 1/2 hours but it was well worth it. We did modified B codes in back. The back went very smooth. We only had to make a few trips to Lowes for some sockets. The fronts were a little more challenging. Getting the axel lined up with the springs on the perch. A couple ratchet straps finally got everything lined up nicely.
The result is amazing. The truck drives like it should. No wandering and I even got rid of a nasty vibration that I've been chasing down. I measured the rear before and after and gained 2 3/4". I forgot to measure the front. My bad.
Much thanks to Stewart_h and Robert_l_Ross and everyone else who contributed to the very helpful tips to doing the swap.
Congratulations and welcome to the spring swapped club! I completely agree changing springs on these trucks is a PITA because of their size, weight, and how many things are in the way.
Use a couple ratchet straps to shift the front axel to line up with the springs on each side
After removing the front bumper, remove the two brackets that support the transmission cooler. This will allow the front bolts on the front spring to slide out.
I got my parts from Robert Horne Ford in Mesa Arizona. The price was a little higher than Tousley but it was 6 miles from my house so I didn't have o pay shipping. If you are in the Southwest, it may be a good option. If you call them ask for Rod Egnash.
Good stuff. You will love driving her even more now! I am still looking for a good set of springs to bolt up to the back of mine...what did the rears cost you at Ford?
Don't plan on putting anything in their place unless climbing in gets too old. I like the clean look. I do plan on putting on tires that will raise it up another 1/2" so, if I do need something, I'll probably get four of the single steps.
swheeler im sure your Ex is a 2005 correct? the front end looks like it, but i never knew Ford kept the leaf spring on the ex in 05? I figured they had coils like the 05 Sd trucks?

While the rest of the SuperDuty line went to coils in '05 Ford knew it was the last year for the EX so they kept the suspension the same as it was in '04. When looking for parts for my '05 I have found a lot of items listed as not compatible with an '05 EX but the listing will show it fits an '04 EX or F-250. The '05's had cosmetic only changes, we also kept the 2 valve V-10 and 4 speed auto trans.
swheeler, your truck looks good! Losing the running boards made it look even taller too.
