They will wear more in the middle because of the arch put in the tread. Also, they are much more likely to pop off the bead if you do any off-roading. If you really want the 12.50's, I would highly recommend new wheels as well. I know, I know, but it's only money, right?
its really not only money, because im 17 and have a pretty much minimum wage job... working 11 hours a week and only taking in ~$300 a month makes it difficult to do much of anything, i know what your saying though, i guess my tires are wearing a little akward, i should monitor the pressure a little more often... my next oil change i get a free alignment as well... so...
Hmmm,
I'm gonna have to disagree with Mr. Wizard on part of what he said. A narrow rim will definitely make your tires wear faster down the middle, I'll give him that.
But the narrow rim should help keep the beads seated better at lower pressures. Since the narrow wheel sort of pinches in the tire, there is always pressure on the beads, even at 0 psi. Whereas with a wide tire, the only thing keeping the bead seated is the pressure in the tire.
My advice is this:
Measure the width, bead to bead, of the tire you want to run. My 12.5s measure about 8.5" bead to bead. Then run a rim +- 1.5" of that measurement. So, by my expert reckoning, you should be fine with 7s or 10s! :-)
P.S.
If you stick with the 7s, you can always run a slightly lower pressure to get a better contact pattern. Might make the tires wear a little more even.
