To Mark63F100 - I have replaced all the king pins and tie rod ends and drained and refilled the OEM Steering Box. Also changed all the leafspring bushings so she is like new in those areas. I have looked at all the No Limit and other options you mention. I found an old post from garbz2 on March 11 2008 that he did the Toyota Box swap on a 1963 unibody. What are your thoughts?
To Garbz2 - If you are still out there and see this on March 11 2008 you wrote "Options include the Toyota conversion which i have done on a 63 unibody about 4 years ago" details on your experience would be greatly appreciated.
I replaced or rebuilt everything in my 66 F100 from the wheels to the steering wheel. My wife could barely drive the truck before I did it. Now she loves driving the truck. I didn't upgrade anything, I just made it all new, so it turned easier, and it made all the difference.
I made a custom angle mount to rotate it and bolt to correctly. Then this bolted to the frame with the pittman shaft exiting the stock hole in the frame. The customer provided a column from a Chevy van and i added a restraint at the floor and used a Borgeson joint to couple the two together.
I used the upper section of the Toyota pittman arm and the lower section of the ford arm and V cut them to make the correct length arm. I had this TIG welded. I also by doing this able to reuse the stock drag-link.
The customer had a small block Chevrolet in the truck so i added a stock pump and brackets, the took the used Toy and Chevy ends to the local hydraulic shop and had new lines made. If you use a ford a similar thing would be needed.
I need to locate a box here as i want to do this conversion to Christine II. I will have Steve at industrial chassis make me the mount for the box and i will modify the stock column and shaft with a lower bearing retainer.
