I just installed my 05 headlights and REALLY want this grill now as well - was just looking at this exact one today. Anyone order it in primer and painted it? Wondering what the quality looks like.
What would it take to make the grill from an 05 F-350 fit on my 2000 X?
Thanks,
Trevor.
From the way you posed your question it sounds to me that you may have access to a grille from an '05 F350 locally. If that is the case you will have to trim off the very bottom edge about an inch or so, so it looks like the one offered in the above mentioned ebay listing. Tape off the bottom area that needs to be cut to protect the finish and use a dremel with a cut-off wheel for best results. The cut edge winds up down against the bumper so once installed you can't see the unfinished edge. Otherwise it will install like you stock grille.
Is that the 05 grill? If you only need to trim the corners I might do mine myself instead of paying $250 through ebay
Did you also cut out the header to fit the 05 headlights too?

If memory serves, it's the entire bottom that needs trimmed, and the bottom clips don't fit the same. If you notice the eBay ads, some make nite of a "no zip tie" mounting...they take the time to add bottom clips, where some just drill holes and want you to zip-tie it to the mounts. Kind of defeats the "easy off" feature (not at many folks need to remove the grille that often).
I noticed on his he didn't trim much...see how the grille almost touches the bumper, but the headlights have a gap?
I love a tight look like his grille has, but I personally would want that tight look uniform all the way across the lights and bumper (grille gap matches the headlight gap), so I'd have trimmed off a bit more.
Not knocking his work - it looks great, but each of us likes what we like.
I know you can raise the bumper, but then you lose access to the screws that hold the turn signals in place (nothing sucks more than needing to remove the entire bumper to change a turn signal bulb - I speak from experience and frustration).
I personally don't trust my straight line Dremel ability, so rather than butcher an $80 eBay grille, I'll just get one milled up right.
I think that's why the good eBay ones are a bit more...they add an extension and clip and the gap still matches the headlight gap.

It's an 05 grill I just cut the bottom a bit with a fine tooth jigsaw. There's a write up some where on fte about it. I had to trim the header panel some for the headlights, but that was easy too. You can't cut out too much of the header panel, I ended up cutting way more than the direction said.
