Sounds like a hell of an engine. Do you know what he did as far as the crank goes? (stock or custom crank) He retain the balance shaft?

It's a custom Callies crank.

All those mods plus 2wd and you have barley broken the 11mpg mark?? Shows the V10 is not an engine to mod for fuel economy haha!!

But who buys a full size truck with a v10 for fuel economy

Nope. They are every bit as good an engine for modding as any Ford modular engine - and arguably better as they should always end up with about 25% more torque/hp than a V8 with identical tuning.

But they are NOT cheap or easy to mod for amateurs who need everything "bolt on". There are not many bolt on parts or "kits" available.

Exactly! They were never made to get good gas mileage, they were made to pull like a 40 mule team. The mileage is just the price of admission.

the barley 11 mark is in winter driving... keep an eye on my sig when it gets warmer i usally check my miles then update my sig quite often. in the summ the most i have ever got was 13.6 and i would say about 65% h-way and 35% city!

and i might be saving gas but the parts on here u can tell are HP parts. so its not like i did it all 4 the mpg it was for the MPH when i need it! lol

V10 can't get to 700hp?

Maybe you should dump that boat anchor motor and get yourself a little 4 banger honda motor that CAN handle the power!

OK, difficult to mod, but not impossible.

We start with custom ground camshafts. Comp Cam has the blanks and will grind to your specs, plus the valve springs you'll need for the added lift.

Sullivan Performance has some knowledge to tap. They can probably direct head porting efforts for maximum flow.

As stated earlier, Whipple did make a 2V supercharger kit, but discontinued it. Might be worth it to scour eBay looking for these parts.

Headers, you better get some, plus a free flowing cat and a performance muffler.

Not a Whipple, but here is a Paxton supercharger kit for a 1999-2001 V-10

Well now I would either lean on these three choices:

Ford Lightning swapout with supercharger

Cummins swap

DT360 swap

Making the V10 have big HP numbers seems like a gamble and mileage would only go down. How hard is the DT360 swap?

I think the Cummins swap would be cheaper because the parts are fairly easy to acquire.

If you want to build a Ford Triton/Modular motor, you should have gone with a 5.4 or swap out to a 5.4 lightning engine. There is a TON of stuff you can do with a 5.4.

Everyone raves about the V10 torque, but the Lightning engine should produce similar torque stock, and better torque when modded. I can also upgrade the lightning supercharger to a whipple or kenne bell which would have crazy power. Just my thoughts on that too.

I 'd love to see a 700HP, 300TQ engine move an Excursion.
2 liters are for drinking, not racing....
