i have a 1987 with a 302, auto trans.
its sat for a few years, just got it running again
but its stuck in 4low.
there are no lights on in the dash saying its in 4x4 or 4low.
now i dont know if its fully electric actuated transfer case or
what, i am not to familiar with this body style truck.
any help would be much appriciated

If there is no transfer case lever in the floor of the truck, the t-case is fully electronic and disengagement should be immediate. Backing up about 10-15 feet might help but typically this is done more to disengage the so-called "automatic" front hubs (junk). The control module for the electronic t-case is behind the passenger side kick panel near the floor. With the electronic cases though, the most common failure point is a jammed shift motor. they often get stuck "between" shift points. When this happens, the control module "knows" it and will not send electricity to the shift motor to keep it from damaging the t-case. The only way to fix it is to either remove the shift motor, lubricate the mechanism and re-install it with the armature rotated to the 2WD position.
