Question Attaching body trim where there was no trim

I have a 78 F250 custom that came without the body side trim and i recently acquired a whole set of upper trim that i would like to put on the truck. The trim came with some of the plastic clips but not all of them and i have a parts truck that had all the trim on it at one time which i might be able to get some more off of. Is there a way to attach this trim or does anybody sell a kit to attach it? I have no idea short of removing black center and screwing the trim into the body and then replacing the black plastic.

I'm not sure if the online store here (motorhaven) has them or not. I'd check there first. Click the "Parts Shop" link in the upper right corner of your screen.

If they don't have them, I am 99% sure Dennis Carpenter sells them. I think they attach with either a stainless screw or pop rivet.

Let me know how it works out for you because I'm going to be doing the same thing with my truck once I locate the rest of the pieces cheap.

Trucks that originally came with this trim had tabs for the clips. Drill holes in down the center where the clips go. After the holes are drilled attach the clips with little screws. I usually put silicone on the screws before running them in. On the door and fender pieces there should be two metal clips that allow a nut to be screwed to them. These go on both ends of the pieces. The bedside has on metal clip like this and goes in the center. There is on metal clip on the rear of bed piece also. It is a very small piece. Your best bet is to find a donor truck and pull all the clips off of it.

So do the plastic clips attach to the body first and then the trim is somehow popped on these clips? I always thought that the clips were put in the trim and then slid onto the studs, but that was just an educated guess I sent an email to Dennis Carpenter to ask if he had the complete kits to put these things on, i will post when i hear. His website has the individual clips so im guessing i can get everything from him that i cannot get off the donor truck.

The plastic clips are placed on the body first. The metal clips are attaches to the trim first and then when the trim is put on the nut can be put on the back side of the fender, door, or bedside which ever piece you are putting on.

Make sure when you are lining up where the screws go that you use/snap a chalk line to make sure they are all centered.

Good call. I forgot to mention that the easiest way to lint the clips up is with a chalk line. If the clips are not in line the trim will not line up and it will look like you know what.
