So I was driving to work. And the truck started to pulsate a little. then it started to miss fire and run like crap then died wouldn't restart troubleshot on the side of the road found it had to no spark. had to get it towed home. the next day started up and idled for 1hr no issues. I drove it later in the day it but under acceleration it hesitate or it would ping so bad that it sounds like a hammer hitting metal. No codes are being set off. I'm leaning toward the dizzy.
Also if you have no spark you could make a LED tester, unplug the ICM and tap pins 1 & 4 with the tester and crank the engine. If the tester does not flash you have a bad PIP sensor in the distributor. If it flashes the PIP sensor is OK.
It must be hooked up as in the diagram below. Do not use a test light, you must use the LED in the below image to check the PIP.
Just for kicks, you might check the power wiring to your EEC relay. It powers the computer and the injectors. I had an 89 once, and it had ring terminal connections that were badly corroded. Started out missing and finally quit.
The other answers may well be the case, but this is easy to check.
