My truck is a 2012 F 350. It randomly will feel like it stumbles when shifting from 2-3 and 4-5. Only happens when I am taking it easy on it and only occasionally. I have read about the 2011's having a revving issue switching gears but this feels like the truck is stumbling and can't decide if it wants to stay in the gear it is in or go to the next one. I am curious if anyone else is having this issue or if a resolution has been found.
I'm not surprised by much with the shifting in these trucks. Early on (1000 miles) it is learning and adjusting your driving style, later it simply hunts for the tallest gear possible as quickly as possible which is annoying.
Driver adaptability is more like it. You will get used to it, change your cruising speed or tendency while coasting through parking lots and stuff. Keep playing with it.
If all else fails, just throw it in "m" mode and do what you want.
I love my truck and wouldn't trade it for any other brand but it is somewhat embarrassing when I have other people riding with me and my $60,000 truck practically falls on itself between gears. They give you that look like "is this thing going to make it?".
Ditto- I get this as well on my 2012. Have approx. 5K miles now and it will still hunt for a gear now and then. The harsh down shift has happened 3-4 times...that IS annoying.
But what really gets to me is the first gear start or when turning at low speeds /driving through a parking lot. I was driving my 03 6.0L w/ 300K miles a few days ago, and that tranny shifts PERFECT! always in the gear I want and low speed cruising is smooth.
I love my new truck, but still miss some aspects of the old one...
This happened to me on my '11 when it was new. It gradually went away after a couple of thousand miles. I attributed this to its learning process. I don't have any hesitation between shifts now, they are all very smooth.
You'll want to read this carefully though. It fixes this same type of issue on trucks built sometime on or before 4/2011. Once fixed is a simple flash update and the other is to replace some solenoids in the transmission. It is all described in the bulletin.

There is a tsb out for this issue where they replace some solenoids in the transmission. Call your dealer.
Mine was born in October and has some issues. Not bad, but is definately not like my old Allison's. It seems to be confused about appropriate gear to be in. It seems to get worse with more miles. Am at 3000 miles now, was better when new.
