Train horns

So. I'm looking to join the train horn club. Been looking around at some kits, or piece by piece builds, when I made the mistake of mentioning it to the wife. Screeeeeetch! There went that idea. Something about a wife that doesn't do loud noises (fireworks, guns, tv violence, all the fun stuff) and a newborn baby that doesn't mix well with train horns. I have tried to say I won't do it with them in the car but no dice. I am temped to just put one in and keep it quiet, but with her letting me put about 6k into a truck with less than 5k miles, I can't push my luck too much
So to those with train horns, what kind of sound is produced in the cab? I realize it's much louder than a normal horn, but is it defining? Would a woman who is afraid to open the pillsbury biscuit rolls be ok with it?

Yeah I know it will get people around you, but what about in-cab noise? Would you do it with a baby in the truck? Or is it about the same volume a the normal horn inside the truck?

There was a thread on here about this not long ago. What some do is wire in a switch for the horn seperate from the stock horn. This way the wife will not even need to know its there. A horn is on my list just, far down the list as of now. From the setups these fellas were talking about, it was great and not all that tricky to wire up. I'll see if I can find it.

Yeah. I saw epic did a good vid. I was going to put the horn on a hidden switch, so it wouldn't even be related to the horn. There is a nice pocket under the center dash that wouldnt get hit by accident, and could easily hide a switch without a "misfire"

Yes it will be a lot louder inside the cab.

If it is louder outside the cab it will be louder inside the cab as well.

I think if you put the horns under the hood or in front of the cab it would cut down on the noise. Where Epic put his would be ideal for a good affect but right under the cab would be loud in the cab I think.

I've got horns mounted directly to the frame rail under my 250. It's noticeably louder inside the cab but not deafening. Outside - that's a different story. It tends to make the passengers 'jump' out of their seats if I honk it without a warning.
Well worth it.

One thing I was wondering if it scares other drivers, what happens if you use the train horn and actually causes someone to crash their car? That would make you liable. I have the train horn on my list to do someday, but I might just do an airhorn off a truck, might be easyier to blame on a trucker.

Just wondering!
