Welcome to FTE! You found the right spot for help!
If I were you, I'd check the junkyards for some fuel injected straight sixes and pick up the dual exhaust manifolds and downpipes. Get a Y-pipe and go with a 2-2.25" single exhaust with a free flowing muffler (flowmaster, thrush welded, cherry bomb, your choice).
Next, hit up ebay and try to find one of those 4 barrel intakes and get a small 4 barrel carb (390 cfm).
If possible to find in your area, find a 240 straight six cylinder head to bump up the compression a little bit. You should have really torquey motor to start with, and those mods right there will really wake 'er up!
make sure it runs right, ie timing, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, valve cover gasket, pushrod cover gasket, air cleaner, pcv valve.
