I have a problem code P0455, it takes a very long time to pump petrol to the tank. Got information from the Ford distributor that this is a failing canister-system. they say it will take 2 hours and possible new tank, and that they have to change possition for the air intake.
What do the canister system do?
Can I take it away without any promblem?
Is this something a newbee can do?
That recirculates gas fumes from your gas tank back into the intake system. You can hardly take anything out the system on a modern day vehicle without causing some sort-of issue.
I'm not sure, but there may be a TSB concerning the slow fill problem. Do an internet search for 2008 Ford Escape TSB. It seems like I read somewhere that some Escapes had a problem w the filler neck or something like that, making it difficult to fill the tank. Not sure about the following, but perhaps the defect was allowing raw fuel into the vapor recovery system which is only supposed to handle fumes. Might explain the DTC?
i am in Iceland, so getting the fumes back to the tank is maby not so critical.
This was not a problem the first 70.000 km, but startet later on. Maby tha ash from "Eyjafjallajökull" has got into the system?

If your still thinking about removing the system. You have a DTC from your PCM about the system, so if you remove or alter it, your PCM will still see something as being wrong.
