guys dont think im stupid or nothin but heres my problem i have a 79 f150 4x4 with a c-6 in it when i went to pull the pan off it had a clutch layin in the pan
the tranny worked fine but i am in the process of restortin the truck so i want everything to be perfect so heres what i got
i have a 77 f 250 parts tuck 2wd with a c-6 i have heard of people taking and swappin the tailshafts out on the trannys id this possibble if so how hard is it and hot exactly is it done
also how hard is it to rebuild a c-6 yourself ?
i have never rebuilt a tranny before
The tailshaft is the first thing installed in the case so you will have to completely dismantle the trans to replace the shaft. I would rebuild the original trans if possible. A Ford manual (not chiltons or haynes) will give details how to rebuild.
thanks i checked on gettin my tranny rebuilt today and think i found all parts to do it with
so anybody need a 2wd c-6 tranny?got a 460 to go in front of it too
I saw mentioned a rebuild video & CD for the C6 on this site made by a 25-30 year mechanic. It's a fairly well done product that walks you through disassembly and reassembly, in addition modifications to suit your driving style (extra clutch plate, low ratio gear set). A sheet is also included to make a tool to assist and part number lists for E4OD parts to beef up you C6. If its your first time it really helps to watch someone do it. Try doing a search, if you don't have any luck I'll look for the name when I get home tonight. For the money it was well worth it. The suggestion of the manual is vital also. Good Luck.
John.
