ive got a 1995 flareside with a 302 5 SPEED
I RECENTLY DID A GOOD TUNE UP ON THEM OTOR AS IT WAS RUNNIN LIKE CRAP
IT RAN PRETTY GOOD AFTER THE TUNE UP AND I WAS GETTIN GREAT MILAGE
OPPS DAMN CAPS
after the tune up i took it dow to the exhaust shop had the single exhaust removed from the y pipe back
from the o2 sencor back i have dual 2 1/4 inch pipe no cats flowmasters then straight pipe to the back of the truck
for the first week or so the truck was runnign great good milage but now it seems sluggish and i get a really loud backfire every now and then
i had it all checked for holes in the new exhaust and none
the exhaust also has a real raunchy smell to it
i think it is running rich
when i did the tune up i didnt put in a new o2 sensor
when i check the codes im getting a couple different egr codes
any ideas guys id like to get this thing runnin good again and the milage back to normal
As much as i hate to say, i think you might be better off with some cats, or back to the y-pipe set up. It sounds to me like you have lost too much exhaust back pressure, which will affect the performance of the egr and the o2 sensor is getting an erroneous reading as the exhaust is flowing to fast, and it sounds like the computer is trying to compensate by dumping in more fuel. Also, if you are running a tad rich, this will only cause your plugs to foul up, which may be why it got worse over time. Pull a plug out and take a look-see. If it looks cover with a thick black film, it's excessive carbon from too much fuel.
