Stock Ford Heads With Massive Ports
fordy's
i was looking up Pontiac 421 Super Duty and
they put out a set of heads for a year or two
with round ports as an improvement.
might be something to the round ports.
i know! big block chevy oval ports.
in the the real world if i see a 289 or later
version of it ( 302 ) with not too many
'smog modifications' i'll probably grab it!

Pontiac V8 engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
you mean the 303?
i noticed it broke the 'RPM Barrier' without an
expensive trip to Hank The Crank and Arias rods and
light weight pistons!
i wonder if that could be done with a GM 350?
Update: i found GM version! the 302.
i think it's 283 crank or something like that.
revs up real good! makes horsepower too.
also i think that's what the guy was talking about
here, looking for 255 Ford rods.

found this looking at wik 'Ford Racing'.
Ford introduced its V-8 Flathead engine, bringing V-8 power into mass production with the slogan "Everyman’s power for the road, and Everyman’s power for racing"
have a another gem here in a moment.
here's Ford's RPM champion.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Boss_302_engine
it opens a can of worms though.
are Ford Racing crate engines 331 and 345 oversquare?

4v heads cleveland.
just had a set freshened up. and some mild port work. they flowed around 290cfm @ 28" once intake bolted on the flow dropped to around 275 cfm. exhaust around 195 on bench. I can see bigger numbers if needed pretty easy. what is your application and do you really need lots of flow or not. if you do a engine and the head flow is 300cfm @ 28" at 600 lift on a 600" engine and thats not a good combination. its all about the combination. my heads are going on a 408" engine and should do well.
can i ask, why do you want huge ports?
for maximum performance, you want the smallest ports that can supply enough flow to feed your max rpm/cam profile/displacement.
large ports dont make power, they make dyno numbers. total power under the curve is what wins races (or boils tires).

just looking into all the Ford engines and
other makes.
it's surprising what people yank out and
then they just want it gone.
'one man's junk is another man's treasure.'

just learning more about Ford engines.
my Y Block sort of got me thinking about them.
none of that changes that Ford pulled the plug
HARD on high performance in '70-71.
some of the engines are kind of interesting.

bigblock cobrajet heads!
those things are huge. the trick is to deport them and straighten them out, work the turndowns to valve. the head really needs a 500" or bigger engine to really appreciate those heads. the exhaust kinda suck but can be worked to make great power but compared to aftermarket heads the cost is about the same with less potential on the big end #s on hrspwr. i have a CJ block and lookin for some heads. or if a restoration kinda guys lookin to do a numbers matching application would let go. but not gonna give it up to a drag racer or mud holer type situation. 4 bolt main block and .030 bore all has been checked and ready to go. another chevy guy with a ford got to love them guys that don't know engines.
