Does anyone know if the Navigation system is automatically updated. The kid at the dealer says it does through Sync system. It is a $2000 + upgrade and if it doesn't my Garmin will be fine.
Also, I am still torn between the 20" wheels and the 18" wheels. I go off road fairly often. It is light off road corn, hay fields and such for dog training and goose hunting.
I have been told the 20" handle better on pavement. I didn't notice a difference in test driving both. The just look really sharp. I have read where the tires on the 20" are not lasting very long.
I am just trying to make the best decissions when I place my order.
The Navigation is not an automatic or free upgrade. You pay each time, if you ever wanted one. I can't imagine maps needing an upgrade very often, but you can buy a Garmin for the price of an upgrade.
Having said that, there is much more to the Nav option than the maps.

Wow. I don't know if I should , , or just .
You gotta ask the kid how this works. Could be one of the best stories you'll hear in a long time. Keep in mind the updates come on a DVD (8GB of data).

Updates are $199 and must be purchased directly from Navteq. This includes the Gracenote CD DB and maps.
Last I heard, Garmin also charges for map updates after 90 days from purchase: $50 for one-time updates or $90 life-time updates (up to 4 times a year), but cannot be transferred to another person or product and can be terminated by Garmin if you violate their terms of agreement.

Overall, unless you will do a bunch of rock climbing or running bumpy trails at high-speed, there shouldn't be any significant difference between 18 and 20's off-road. For a given tire diameter, the 18" will offer more sidewall for flexing and softening of bumps.
The Pirelli's that Ford puts on their 20" rims are not well suited for off-road operation so those may be the first things you want to replace when you have the opportunity.

Cheaper than Navteq updates for sure...
Any Garmins that have a model number ending in "LM" or "LMT" have free updates included for life.
