Serpentine conversion 86 351

I have a complete EFI 351 that I'm going to be swapping into my new 86 F250. Obviously I'm ditching the EFI and going carb'd but I'd like to keep the serpentine setup.

What timing cover do I use? Would the 90 donor 351 still have the fuel pump boss on it? How about the eccentric? The motor's in the 86 so I can get parts from it. If I have to use the cover from the 86 will the reverse WP bolt up? I see two covers listed and they mention standard and reverse water pumps.

Also, I know the earlier covers had the dipstick in them, but since my donor was EFI it has the pan mounted dipstick. So this shouldn't be an issue but I wonder if that's what makes them different and listed as std and rev.

My google-fu started working and I found my answer. Despite having a dedicated reverse rotation cover, the reverse rotation pump should bolt to any cover. The pumps use round ports and render the radiused ports irrelevant.

So, I'll need the cover and eccentric from the 86 and the reverse rotation WP from the 90 along with all the brackets. I just have to make sure the outlets from the pump are round and not oblong.

Everyone has their reasons, but if I had the opportunity to use the v-belt setup, I would. With the v-belt setup, if the A/C compressor clutch fails, just take the belt off. No idler pulley to fail, or tension mechanism to fail.

I know most all vehicles now have a serpentine setup, and they have a good track record, but I know a guy that has been stranded at least 2 times from his serpentine belt system. Both times he was dead in the water, since that one belt does everything.

My knuckles are still sore from doing belts on my 87 351... Everything was rusty, nothing wanted to move, the brace for the alternator was in the way... Plus it has a plow mount...

I guess everything has it's place. I wouldn't mind V belts but I will need to figure out something for the alternator as I eventually want to move up to a 3g alt and don't want any belt slipping.

So serpentine for now...
